Mathematics

A2 Level Mathematics (Advanced Level Year 2)

Overview:

A2 Mathematics continues from AS and includes more complex calculus, algebra, and applied mathematics. It demands abstract thinking and higherorder problem solving.

Core Components (Pure Mathematics):

Advanced Algebra: Exponential & logarithmic functions, parametric equations

Trigonometry: Doubleangle & producttosum identities, inverse trig functions

Calculus: Chain, product, and quotient rules; integration by parts and substitution

 Differential Equations: First order

 Vectors in 3D

 Proof by induction

Applied Mathematics Options:

Mechanics: Energy, momentum, circular motion, projectiles

Statistics: Normal distribution, hypothesis testing, correlation and regression

Further Mathematics (optional subject): Complex numbers, matrices, numerical methods, advanced calculus

Skills Developed:

 Highlevel algebraic and calculus fluency

Rigorous mathematical reasoning and proof writing

Application of mathematics to physics, engineering, and finance

 Strategic problemsolving under time constraints

Objective:

To prepare students for mathematicsintensive university degrees and analytical careers in fields such as engineering, economics, physics, and data science.
